Arab coalition confirms: helicopter crash in Al-Mahhra and crew killed

The Arab coalition announced Friday that a helicopter belonging to the Saudi ground forces and its pilot had been killed with his co-pilot.

A spokesman for the Arab coalition forces, Col. Turki al-Maliki, was quoted by the official Saudi Press Agency as saying that "one of the coalition helicopters belonging to the Royal Saudi ground forces was hit on Friday by a technical defect."

Al-Maliki said the incident "caused its downfall, the martyrdom of the pilot and his assistance as they carried out their duties in combating terrorism and smuggling in the province of al-Mahhra in eastern Yemen."

A local source said earlier, to "Al Masdar online," that a Saudi military helicopter landed in the area of "Tanhala " in the “AL Ghaidhah” the capital of the province on Friday.

The crew of the plane had their bodies charred after they were burnt down, the source said.
