Hadhramaut.. Protesters close main streets in Mukalla to denounce deteriorating electricity service

Protesters in Mukalla, capital of Hadramaut province, on Tuesday blocked a number of main streets in the city to protest the deterioration of the city's electricity service.

Witnesses told Al-Masdar online that protesters burned tires, causing traffic to paralyze.

Late Monday evening, protesters blocked the road in Dees Al-Mukalla area in front of the traffic of cars and trucks, causing dozens of people to pile up.

The protests come two days after an extended meeting chaired by Hadramout's first deputy Amr Ben Habrish threatened to stop oil exports from Hadhramaut unless the government responds to its demands urgently, especially with regard to resolving the electricity crisis.

The Ministry of Electricity announced the arrival of a ship to the port of Aden carrying 3,821 tons of gasoline for the power Station in the Hadhramaut coast.

The ministry said the government has sent 12 locomotives to the city of Mukalla from Aden refineries to supply power plants in Mukalla, according to the official Saba news agency.
